Jamshedpur, Aug 16: A ground-mounted Solar Power Project of 2.0 MWp (Megawatt peak) capacity was commissioned in Tata Steel’s Sonari Airport at Jamshedpur on Monday, August 14. With this move, the entire airport operations will be powered through solar energy.
This project has been commissioned by Tata Power under the larger agreement with Tata Steel for installation of total 41MW with a combination of roof top, floating and ground mounted solar panels across its locations.
Four rooftop solar projects at Central Warehouse, Cold Rolling Mill, Wire Rod Mill and Hot Strip Mill totaling to 7.65 MWp have been commissioned earlier. A floating solar power project of 10.8 MWp in Tata Steel Jamshedpur Works is also nearing completion.

Only problem is that airport can be used only by the Tata employees. Rest have to use Ranchi airport and drive down to Jamshedpur. It’s an ordeal.

What’s the use of Solar or Nuclear power Airport when the Tata Co is adamant not to have any commercial flight fly from this Airport…A little land from Beldih Golf club can be taken and then Airbus can land on it ..
