Jamshedpur, Feb 2: Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato met Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and expressed concern over delay in construction of Dhalbhumgarh Airport.
Significantly, during the last Lok Sabha session, Mahto had met the Union Minister and demanded the construction of this airport at the earliest. Not only this, Mahto had also raised this matter during Zero Hour in Lok Sabha on 1st December last.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, General (Dr.) V.K. Singh wrote a letter to Bidyut Mahato, informing that the Airport Authority of India is developing Dhalbhumgarh airport at a cost of Rs.99.36 crore to operate the ATR-72 type of aircraft. In this regard, the Center had advised the civil aviation department, Government of Jharkhand to appoint a forest Clearance Consultant for coordination with the chief forest warden. Accordingly, the suitable proposal may be submitted to the Environment Appraisal Committee for approval of the project.
In his letter, union minister of state for civil aviation has also written that in this regard a meeting was also organized between the officials of the State Civil Aviation Department and Forest Department and Airport Director Ranchi on 6.10.2021 in which the issues related to forest clearance from the state were resolved. Only on receipt of forest clearance from the state, AAI will be able to take action for obtaining environment clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Union Minister of State VK Singh further said that AAI is making constant efforts to resolve environment clearance and other related issues with the State Government and their advisors so that work on the project can be started at the earliest.
During the meeting today, Union Minister Scindia told Mahto that if forest clearance is not being received from the state, then he will directly talk to the Chief Minister of the state in this matter. He said that he also wants that a better airport should be constructed in Jamshedpur at the earliest. Mahto invited Shri Scindia to come once again to Jamshedpur, which he gladly accepted and said that in the near future, the program of Jamshedpur will be decided soon.
