Jamshedpur: A heart-wrenching road accident unfolded late on Sunday night, shattering the lives of a family as their car was struck from behind by another vehicle on the Straight Mile Road near Baug-e-Jamsheed School, within the jurisdiction of Bistupur Thana. Tragically, the middle-aged woman in the car lost her life instantly, while her husband and daughter sustained severe injuries in the devastating collision.
The victim, identified as Shruti Das (38) and a resident of DS Flat in Golmuri, met with a tragic end in the accident. Her husband, Santosh Das (42), and their 10-year-old daughter Shurabhi were rushed to Tata Main Hospital, with Santosh’s condition being described as critical.
The incident transpired as the family was returning home to Golmuri from Kadma, with the clock nearing 11 pm. As Santosh Das decelerated to navigate a small roundabout near Baug-e-Jamsheed School, a speeding car approached from behind and collided with their vehicle. The impact of the collision caused the family’s car to collide with a divider before overturning.
The car responsible for the accident immediately fled the scene and sped towards Mango, leaving the victims in a dire situation. Thankfully, some passersby acted swiftly to rescue the injured family and rush them to the hospital.
Tragically, Shruti Das’s injuries were so severe that, despite the valiant efforts of rescuers and medical professionals, she was declared brought dead upon arrival at Tata Main Hospital.
Santosh Das and his daughter, who were initially taken to MGM Medical Hospital, remained in critical condition, especially the husband. Subsequently, they were shifted to Tata Main Hospital for more extensive medical care.
Anjani Kumar, Officer-in-Charge of Bistupur Thana, confirmed that the accident occurred due to reckless driving by the driver of the other car involved. “The erring car driver has managed to escape with the vehicle. We are trying to trace the car and its driver by collecting CCTV footage of the accident scene,” stated the OC.
