Jamshedpur: In compliance with Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, a strict 48-hour ban on election campaigning is in effect ahead of the upcoming polling. This period, known as the “silent period,” prohibits all election-related activities to ensure voters can make their decisions without any external influence.
During this 48-hour window, individuals are barred from calling, organizing, attending, or participating in any public meetings or processions connected to the election. Additionally, the exhibition of election-related material through any form of media, including television, cinemagraphs, or similar devices, is prohibited. The law also bans the organization of musical concerts, dramatic performances, or any form of entertainment intended to attract the public to election-related messages.
Those found violating these provisions may face severe legal consequences, with penalties including imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both. The Election Commission has issued these guidelines to maintain a fair and impartial environment leading up to the election, ensuring that the final hours of voting are free from any external pressure or influence.
