Jamshedpur: Satnam Singh Gambhir, the East India President of the All India Sikh Students Federation, has voiced his deep concern over the recent deterioration in relations between Canada and India. In light of the escalating tensions, Gambhir strongly condemned the targeting of Sikh religious places, stating that such actions are unacceptable and must not be tolerated, whether in Canada or India.
Reflecting on the longstanding ties between the two nations, particularly with the Punjabi community in Canada, Gambhir called on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make measured and responsible statements. He urged both leaders to ensure that their comments promote understanding and peace, rather than stoking division.
Gambhir emphasized that the Sikh community holds all religious places in high regard and rejects any involvement in attacks on such sites. He also highlighted the community’s ongoing fight for justice in relation to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, noting that Sikhs are still waiting for justice for the tragic events that continue to haunt them.
In his statement, Gambhir referred to the history of the Sikh community’s peaceful coexistence with others, praising the leadership of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Jathedar Sahibs for their unwavering commitment to upholding Sikh values. He further asserted that Sikhs have always been advocates for peace and justice, both in India and abroad.
Gambhir concluded his remarks by calling for a strong diplomatic strategy between India and Canada to preserve the peace, especially considering the significant Indian diaspora in Canada. He proposed that both governments should work together on a comprehensive plan to maintain harmony and foster a prosperous relationship for the future of both nations.
