Jain Group of Institutions to set up university in Seraikela-Kharsawan

Jamshedpur : The Jain Group of Institutions (JGI), has decided to invest over Rs 200 crore to set up a university in Seraikela-Kharsawan.

Founder-chairman, JGI, R. Chenraj Jain said they were looking for around 100 acres in the district to establish the educational institution. They plan to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in IT, engineering and commerce.

The chairman said they planned to begin the next academic session from July 2017 at Jain College, which they were already running on a 3.5 acres in Gamharia for the past five years.

Jain College, which is affiliated to Kolhan University, has over 600 students enrolled in various courses such BCA, BBA, BCom and postgraduate diploma in management.

Chenraj Jain, who met chief minister Raghubar Das in Ranchi on Monday, said he was impressed with the keenness of the state government and decided to open the university in Jharkhand, which has been declared third in a central survey on ease of doing business.

Jain added that the objective behind opening a private university in Seraikela-Kharsawan was to provide value-added vocational courses. “We will soon prepare a blueprint of the proposed university, which will be submitted to the government at the earliest,” he said.

Based in Bangalore, the entrepreneurship incubator also has plans to invest Rs 500 crore each to run universities in Australia and Africa. The group also runs private varsities and colleges in as many as nine states.
