Jail Superintendent and IG confirm Yogendra Tiwari’s intimidation

Ranchi: In a startling revelation, Jail Superintendent cum Ranchi ADM Naxal Ramvriksh Ram and Jail IG Umashankar Singh of Birsa Munda Central Jail have acknowledged that Yogendra Tiwari, currently incarcerated, issued threats to Ashutosh Chaturvedi, the Editor-in-Chief of Prabhat Khabar. The threats were reportedly conveyed through a phone call made from the jail’s landline.
The Superintendent detailed that Tiwari utilized strong language during the call, issuing warnings to Chaturvedi. Despite the severity of the situation, as of now, no concrete action has been taken against Yogendra Tiwari. However, on December 5, Jail IG Umashankar Singh suspended Jailer Pramod Kumar, Chief High Ward Awadhesh Singh, and Computer Operator Pawan Kumar in connection with the case.
The Jail Superintendent, on December 31, 2023, had taken a proactive step by filing an FIR at the Khelgaon police station regarding the threatening communication originating from the prison facility. The unfolding events emphasize the challenges authorities face in ensuring security within correctional institutions and the need for swift and decisive actions to maintain order and safeguard individuals from such threats.
