Jagannath Purty’s strike seals A Division title for Mohammedan Sporting

Jamshedpur, Nov 14: Mohammedan Sporting Club lifted the A Division title after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Urban Service in the final at the JRD Sports Complex on Friday, thanks to a crucial second-half goal from Jagannath Purty. His solitary strike in the 52nd minute proved enough to seal the championship in a tight contest that offered little room for error. The match began with both sides showing strong defensive discipline, making chances scarce in the opening half. Mohammedan Sporting gradually established control through steady possession and patient movement, while Urban Service stayed compact and organised at the back, relying on quick transitions to threaten.

The breakthrough arrived shortly after the restart when Jagannath Purty found space inside the box and calmly placed his shot past the Urban Service goalkeeper. The goal injected confidence into Mohammedan’s play, allowing them to dictate the tempo for much of the remaining period. Urban Service pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Mohammedan Sporting’s backline held firm to protect their narrow lead. With disciplined defending and effective game management, they ensured there was no late twist.

The final whistle confirmed Mohammedan Sporting Club as the new A Division champions, completing their campaign with a composed and professional performance on the biggest stage.

The Runners-Up Trophy was awarded to Urban Services by Firoz Khan – President Tata Workers Union, while the Winner Trophy was presented to Mohammedan Sporting Club by Mr. Victor Somaya, Chairman JSA Selection / Technical Committee.
