Jamshedpur: Ahead of President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled visit to Jamshedpur on February 26, the East Singhbhum district administration has directed the Forest Department to relocate jackals spotted roaming around Sonari Airport.
According to officials, a significant number of jackals have been frequently seen moving freely across the runway and airport campus, posing a potential security concern. In view of the President’s visit, the Ministry of Home Affairs has reportedly issued strict instructions to ensure that the runway is completely cleared of wild animals before her landing.
President Murmu is scheduled to arrive in Jamshedpur by helicopter from Ranchi to attend a private function in Kadma, where she will participate in the bhoomi pujan and foundation stone laying ceremony for the Shri Jagannath Spiritual and Cultural Charitable Trust.
In a letter written to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Saba Alam Ansari on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi emphasized the importance of shifting the jackals to a safe location prior to the President’s arrival.
DFO Ansari confirmed that the Forest Department will launch a special drive to remove the jackals from the airport premises with assistance from Tata Steel Zoological Park. A coordinated plan is being prepared to safely capture and relocate the animals without causing harm.
Following directives from New Delhi, the district administration has swung into action. A joint team comprising officials from Tata Steel, JUSCO, and JNAC (Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee) has been entrusted with executing the strategy. Expert teams are working on measures to cordon off vulnerable zones and drive the jackals away from the runway area.
Officials said ensuring foolproof security arrangements remains the top priority as preparations intensify for the President’s high-profile visit.
