Jamshedpur: As the global automotive industry accelerates its shift from traditional combustion engines to electric mobility, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur has launched a five-day Advanced Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program (ESDP) aimed at preparing the next generation of innovators and manufacturers. Focused on auto components for both Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) and Electric Vehicles (EVs), the MSME-sponsored initiative seeks to strengthen technical expertise and entrepreneurial capacity in India’s rapidly evolving auto sector.
Titled “Scaling Success: Auto Components for ICEs and EVs in Domestic and Export Markets,” the programme is being conducted from February 12 to 16 under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India.
The initiative aims to enhance technical competence and entrepreneurial capabilities in the rapidly transforming automotive sector, where the transition from conventional engines to electric mobility is reshaping global markets. By aligning with India’s vision of self-reliant manufacturing, clean mobility, and sustainable energy development, the MSME-sponsored ESDP seeks to equip students, research scholars, and aspiring entrepreneurs with industry-relevant skills and business acumen.
The programme is being conducted under the guidance of Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, Director, NIT Jamshedpur. Acknowledging his support, the coordinators expressed gratitude for his valuable suggestions and encouragement in strengthening the Institute’s role in skill development and industry–academia collaboration. “His vision for fostering indigenous technological advancement and innovation-driven growth has been instrumental in bringing the initiative to fruition,” one of the coordinators said.
The inaugural session was graced by Prof. R. V. Sharma, In-charge Director, NIT Jamshedpur, who underscored the importance of entrepreneurship-driven technical education, particularly in the domains of electric mobility and renewable energy. He lauded the efforts of the organizing team — Dr. Kanika Prasad, Dr. Om Hari Gupta and Dr. K. Raghavendra Naik — for conceptualizing and executing a timely, skill-oriented programme aligned with current industry demands.
Over the next five days, participants will engage in expert lectures and interactive sessions conducted by eminent academicians and industry professionals, including Dr. Chandra Shekhar Malvi (MITS Gwalior), Dr. Atul Mohan, Dr. Sarika Srivastava, Ms. Ohmna Sinha, Global Head of Data and Analytics at Nielsen Media, and faculty members of NIT Jamshedpur such as Dr. Om Hari Gupta, Dr. K. Raghavendra Naik, Dr. Dinesh Kumar and Dr. Kanika Prasad.
The sessions will provide practical exposure to engine technologies, EV ecosystem development, charging infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, quality control mechanisms, and the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. The programme also focuses on exploring domestic and export market opportunities, quality benchmarking, and innovation strategies crucial for MSMEs in the automotive value chain.
The inauguration witnessed participation from industry professionals, researchers, and budding entrepreneurs eager to tap into emerging opportunities in the ICE and EV segments. Coordinators Dr. Kanika Prasad, Dr. Om Hari Gupta, and Dr. K. Raghavendra Naik reiterated the Institute’s commitment to promoting innovation, skill enhancement, and industry-oriented training.
