J.H. Tarapore School: Swastik, Sankalp and Debanjan Emerge Champions at CISCE Zonal Chess Tournament

Jamshedpur, June 24: The VIIth CISCE Zonal Chess Tournament began with a colourful opening ceremony at J.H. Tarapore School on Wednesday. The event was marked by an impressive dance performance by students, who creatively portrayed different chess pieces and their strategic movements, setting an enthusiastic tone for the competition.


The tournament was inaugurated in the presence of chief guest Mukul Choudhari, Chief of Sports, Tata Steel and CEO of Jamshedpur FC. Priti Sinha, Zonal Coordinator of the Jamshedpur Zone and Principal of Gulmohar High School, attended as the Guest of Honour, while N.K. Tiwary, Vice President of ESCA, was present as the Special Guest.


The technical conduct of the tournament was overseen by International Arbiter Chandan Kumar Prasad, who served as Technical Director, while Jayant Kumar Bhuyan officiated as the Chief Arbiter.
The opening day featured competitions in the boys’ Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories. A total of 241 participants from various CISCE-affiliated schools showcased their talent, concentration and sportsmanship during intense matches held throughout the day.

In the Under-14 category, Swastik Singh of Carmel Junior College secured the first position, followed by Darsh Gaurav of Little Flower School in second place and Devyansh Sona of Narbheram Hansraj English School in third. In the Under-17 category, S. Sankalp Kumar of Motilal Nehru Public School emerged champion, while his schoolmate Raghavendra Gupta finished second and Vaibhav Sai of Carmel Junior College claimed third place. Debanjan Sinha of Carmel Junior College won the Under-19 title, with Mayan Jha and Raunak Prajapati of Loyola School securing second and third positions respectively.

A prize distribution ceremony was held to honour the winners. The tournament will continue on June 25 with girls’ competitions in all three age categories.
