Investigation launched into serious medical error: Pregnant woman receives incorrect blood type at MGM Hospital

Jamshedpur: In a concerning incident at MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur, a pregnant woman was mistakenly given “O” positive blood instead of her required “B” positive blood. The family promptly reported the error to the hospital superintendent, Dr. Ravindra Kumar, who has initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.

Superintendent Dr. Ravindra Kumar expressed grave concern over the incident, acknowledging the seriousness of the medical error. Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed irregularities in the women and maternity department of the hospital. It was discovered that during the sampling process, a mix-up occurred, and the sample taken was from a different pregnant woman, with someone else’s name erroneously attached.

Subsequently, the flawed sample was sent to the hospital’s blood bank, where the blood transfusion took place based on the incorrect report. Dr. Ravindra Kumar emphasized that the hospital is now working to identify the individual responsible for extracting the blood from the wrong patient, and strict actions will be taken against the responsible party.

The superintendent stressed the gravity of the situation, highlighting that administering blood of a different blood group to a patient is a severe medical lapse. As the investigation unfolds, the hospital administration is committed to ensuring accountability and taking necessary actions against those found guilty in this unfortunate incident.
