Santhal Pargana Foundation Day celebrated with call for Bharat Bandh on Sarna Dharma Code demand

Godda: On the commemoration of Santhal Pargana Foundation Day, members of the Tribal Sengal Abhiyan gathered in Mohla village of Meghi Panchayat in Boarijore block, Godda. Pargana Munna Soren presided over the meeting, where discussions centered around the pressing need for the Sarna Dharma Code and the announcement of a Bharat Bandh on 30th December to advocate for this demand.

Pargana Munna Soren, in his role as the campaign’s leader, conveyed the instructions from the central president, Salkhan Murmu, stating that a Bharat Bandh is planned on 30th December to emphasize the importance of the Sarna Dharma Code. Soren urged the cooperation of all community members to ensure the success of this nationwide protest, emphasizing the difficulties faced by the tribal community due to the absence of a recognized religious code.

Highlighting the historical significance of Santhal Pargana, established on 22nd December 1855 through the efforts of Sido-Kanhu, Soren stressed the importance of strictly implementing the SPT and CNT Act for the protection of tribal rights. He also noted that the recognition of the Santhal language Ol Chiki script in 2003 was a result of the central president’s relentless efforts.

Soren affirmed that the rights and entitlements of tribals can only be secured through collective movements, urging unity on 30th December to make the Bharat Bandh a success. The meeting was attended by prominent figures such as Louis Hansda, Mary Soren, Phool Murmu, Chandan Marandi, Jishu Lal Murmu, and Chamru Baski, among others.
