Jharkhand Govt Schools to Remain Open for International Yoga Day

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Government and government-aided schools across Jharkhand will remain open on June 21 to mark International Yoga Day. The state government has decided to observe the 12th International Yoga Day as “Yogmay Jharkhand 2026-27”. Despite it being a Sunday, all schools in the state will remain open to ensure the collective participation of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff.

Special Training for Teachers from June 12 to 15

According to the directives issued by Uma Shankar Singh, Secretary of the School Education and Literacy Department, officials have set this year’s International Yoga Day theme as “Yoga for Healthy Aging”. The Jharkhand Education Project Council has released a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure the program’s success.

Under this plan, teachers will undergo special training programs at the district, block, and cluster levels from June 12 to 15. Furthermore, schools will organize poster, slogan, poetry, and essay-writing competitions under the National Yoga Olympiad framework to boost yoga awareness. After evaluations at the block, district, and state levels, authorities will upload the selected entries to the National Portal of NCERT.

Daily Yoga Practice from June 16 to 20

From June 16 to 20, all schools will conduct a mandatory 45-minute mass yoga session every day from 7:15 AM to 8:00 AM. All students, teachers, and other staff members must participate. Additionally, on June 17, schools will reconstitute a seven-member Yoga Club, which will manage yoga-related activities throughout the academic year.

Two-Minute Meditation Before Classes Begin

Issuing strict instructions, the School Education and Literacy Department has mandated that class teachers must now conduct a two-minute meditation session every day before the first period begins. The education department believes this practice will positively improve students’ concentration, mental balance, and learning capacity.

Schools will also felicitate students who secure first, second, and third positions in school-level competitions during the main event on June 21. The administration will cover the event expenses through the Composite School Grant under Samagra Shiksha. The department clarified that the respective school principals hold the sole responsibility for successfully executing the Yoga Day programs and ensuring 100% attendance.
