Jamshedpur, June 30: On the occasion of International Tagore Poetry Recitation Day, poetry enthusiasts gathered at Tagore Society (Rabindra Bhavan), the city’s hub for literature, art, and culture, to recite the works of Kobi Guru Rabindranath Tagore. Ashis Chowdhury, General Secretary of Tagore Society, shared insights into the significance of this day. He recalled how, in 1912, Tagore recited selected poems from his timeless work, Gitanjali, at the home of English scholar Roden Stein. This recital captivated contemporary poets, including Ezra Pound and W.B. Yeats, who were so moved by Tagore’s compositions that they recommended him for the Nobel Prize in Literature, which he was awarded in 1913.
