International Conference on Lean Grade and Urban Ore concludes

Jamshedpur : The three-day long conference on Processing of Lean Grade and Urban Ores (IC-LGO 2015) organised by CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur in association with the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Jamshedpur Chapter concluded on positive note.

On its third day, it had eight parallel sessions covering the areas � Processing of fines (Pelletisation and Sintering), Hydrometallurgical Processing (Separation Processes), Recycling (E-Wastes and General), Pyrometallurgical Processing, Characterisation and Beneficiation (Coal), Energy and Energy Materials and Bioprocessing.

The notable speakers from abroad were � Dr. Alexandre Chagnes, PSL Research University, France; Dr. Sehliselo Ndlovu, University of the Wittwatersrand, South Afr ica; Ho-Sung Yoon, Dr. Jin-Young Lee, KIGAM, South Africa; Dr. Sheila Devasahayam, Federation University. Australia; Dr. Tlek Ketegenov, National Engg. Academy of Republic of Kazahstan; Dr. Janardhan Reddy Koduru, Kwangwoon University, South Korea.

From India the notable speakers were � Dr. G.N. Jadhav, Dr. Suresh S., IIT-Bombay; Dr. Satish Kumar Kuchimanchi, Jindal Steel & Power Limited, Barbil; Dr. C.B. Singh, OP Jindal Institute of Technology, Dr. K. Keekan, Jenepoya University Mangalore, Karnataka; Dr. S.K. Shukla, Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi; Dr. Ajay K. Tyapgi, Shriram Institute for Industrial Research, Delhi; Dr. Ajay Kumar, Gautam Buddha University, Noida; Dr. Amar Nath Bhadra, Doilers WB� Dr. K.V. Subba Reddy ZPH School, Kurnool; Dr. Sweta Sharma, Jamshedpur Co-operative College, Jamshedpur; Dr. R.R. Kumar, RDCIS, SAIL, Ranchi, Dr. Tushar Kant Pattnayak, Adhunik Group of Industries, New Delhi.

A concluding session was held at the end of the technical presentations and group discussions. Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Chairman Technical Committee presented the detail deliberations during last three days. Dr. Kumar summarized and said, lean ore are the left out minerals and urban ore are the man made resources.

The processing is a technical activities and it depends on geographical locations, culture and local conditions. Every materials have specific processing technologies to be applied with. Therefore, the recommendations put forwarded by eminent researchers like employment of metals/materials specific processing technologies and their long terms short terms perspective, issues relating to disposal and recycling of hazardous materials, call for a global cooperative efforts, etc., are well taken.

Prof. Kwadwo Osseo-Asare, USA in his remarks said countries like India and Ghana have many common issues. While stating at Jamshedpur I realized to have a organization like NML as I am originally from Ghana. He referred to Dr. Ismail who mentioned that their metallurgical lab was build by one of the former Director of CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur.

Few more foreign and Indian delegates also spoke on the occasion. CSIR-NML Director Dr. S. Srikanth finally delivered his concluding remarks and looked for mutual cooperation and supports from the different experts for future endeavors too. The delegates expressed their happiness and a great satisfaction over the hospitality at Jamshedpur City.
