Inter-state task force to come up to curb cybercrime: IG

Jamshedpur: State police are working on a plan to set up an inter-state task force to curb rising cases of cyber crime. The plan is to involve Bihar and West Bengal to strengthen its network.  

Amidst deteriorating law and order in the city, the State Police are geared up to strengthen its mechanism for controlling crime by focusing on gang war and drug peddlers.

Zonal IG Naveen Kumar Singh, who is in city to review law and order situation in the district, gave important tips to the police team. He said that they will ensure that steps are taken controlling gang war. The meeting was attended by SSP M Tamil Vanan. The IG informed that this year around 850 criminals have been arrested by the police department.

A crime wave has gripped the city in recent months with figures showing a substantial increase in the number of attacks, thefts and loot taking place across the city. While the deteriorating law and order situation in the city remains a major concern, the police personnel are busy in cooperating with the district administration in fighting against spread of Coronavirus. Criminals went on a shooting spree in and around the steel city in past few days.

 “Our department is working to strengthen its mechanism. The police administration is focused on controlling such cases,” noted Singh. He informed that they are also framing strategy to curb ATM frauds in association with bank authorities.

 Sources informed that police officials are being imparted training on seizure and collection of digital evidence, investigation in social networking sites, ATM and credit card fraud.

With the city going hi-tech, cybercrime cases are also on the rise. The crime has shot up this year, going by the increasing number of petitions and complaints that the police are receiving.

Sources in the city police said complaints of hacking of email accounts and complaints of people falling prey to phishing mails or becoming a victim of other online frauds have been reported.

He said that his purpose of coming to the city was to inspect the office of Superintendent of Police and review the functioning of the police. He also discussed how to increase the police capacity.

Regarding the functioning of the police, he said that the efforts are being made to adopt scientific way. For this, the police of the city are being high-tech. All the police offices of the city will be computerized now.

He said that the campaign against arms paddlers and intoxicants is going on continuously as per the directions of the DGP. Arms paddlers have been caught after an expedition in the past. The police are also trying to tighten the screws on other arms paddlers. For this, the police are preparing a list of criminals, in which information is being obtained from the active criminals, where they bought the weapon and where it was kept.
