Intensive search in Dhanbad Jail after gangster Aman Singh’s murder: Two pistols recovered, Jailer suspended

Dhanbad: Following the murder of inmate Aman Singh in Dhanbad Jail, authorities have taken swift action. Separate teams from the district and jail administration conducted thorough searches of all wards, cells, and premises. During the operation, six mobile phones and Rs 18,000 were seized. In response to potential conflicts and gang wars among prisoners, inmates from different groups were promptly relocated to separate cells.

A three-tier committee, comprising the DM Law and Order, Additional Collector, and City SP, has been formed to investigate the incident and security lapses. CCTV footage analysis revealed the recovery of two pistols within the jail premises, linked to the incident. Four FIRs have been filed, and the incident site within the hospital ward of the jail has been barricaded and sanitized.

The jail administration has identified officers and personnel responsible for the security lapse. Contracts for two negligent cell guards have been terminated, while five others have been suspended and are under departmental investigation. In light of the staff shortage, seven cell guards have been transferred to Dhanbad from other jails. Dhanbad Jailer Mohd. Musatkeem Ansari has been suspended and transferred immediately.

Considering the gravity of the matter, 23 prisoners have been transferred to other state jails based on recommendations from the Jail Superintendent and DC. The situation is currently under control, but for added vigilance, senior officers have been deputed for day-to-day monitoring. IG CID Aseem Vikrant Minj (IPS) and IG Prison Umashankar Singh (IAS) conducted joint inspections, providing instructions to officials.

At the state level, the Prison Inspectorate has formed a committee for a comprehensive investigation. The district administration has dispatched three teams to Mandal Jail for further inquiry. Dhanbad DC has requested the Principal District and Sessions Judge to appoint a Judicial Magistrate for a thorough judicial inquiry.

Aman Singh, the deceased gangster, faced various criminal charges across districts, including murder, firing, and extortion. Despite being acquitted in numerous cases, Aman remained a named accused in multiple instances outside Dhanbad as well.
