Ranchi, June 11: The severe heatwave conditions in Jharkhand have left residents grappling with intense discomfort, making it difficult for them to venture out on the roads. The scorching winds have proven to be a challenge not only for people but also for animals. As residents eagerly await the onset of the monsoon, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for a heatwave till June 14, warning of further scorching temperatures.
The monsoon, which was initially expected to arrive in Jharkhand on June 13, has faced a setback as it has stalled in the Siliguri-Sikkim region due to unfavorable conditions. This has raised concerns about a potential delay in the monsoon’s entry into the state by two to four days beyond the scheduled date.
The Meteorological Center in Ranchi has issued an orange alert for severe heatwave conditions in the districts of Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Deoghar, Godda, Jamtara, and Dumka from June 10 to June 14. Simultaneously, a yellow alert for heatwave conditions has been issued for Latehar, Lohardaga, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Khunti, East Singhbhum, and Seraikela Kharsawan.
According to the Meteorological Centre, there is a possibility of scattered rainfall and thunderstorms in some areas of these districts due to local weather systems. However, the overall heatwave conditions are expected to persist, exacerbating the already challenging situation for the residents.
While the monsoon made an early arrival in Kerala, arriving two days ahead of schedule, its progress has been slower than anticipated, dashing hopes for timely relief in Jharkhand. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this intense heatwave period. (w/nkm)
