IMD warns of strong winds and thunderstorms in Jamshedpur from May 4

Jamshedpur: A sudden and intense thunderstorm accompanied by rain swept across Jamshedpur on Saturday afternoon, uprooting trees and disrupting normal life in several areas.
Localities including Sakchi witnessed significant damage, with fallen trees crushing vehicles and blocking roads. Strong gusty winds, estimated between 40–50 kmph, lashed the city, catching residents off guard.
The storm led to brief traffic disruptions and panic in busy market zones, as commuters scrambled for safety. Eyewitnesses reported that large trees were uprooted and branches of trees within minutes of the storm’s onset, highlighting the intensity of the weather system.

According to the latest bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department from its Ranchi Meteorological Centre at Birsa Munda Airport, Jharkhand is currently witnessing unstable weather conditions.

Ranchi: 32.2°C

Jamshedpur: 35.1°C

Bokaro: 34.1°C

Highest rainfall: 20.0 mm recorded at Simdega

Forecast and Warnings

May 3–4: Enhanced weather activity expected in districts including Godda, Sahibganj, Pakur, Dumka, Deoghar, Jamtara, Giridih, Dhanbad and Bokaro. These areas may experience hailstorms, lightning, and stronger winds (50–60 kmph).

Remaining districts:

Thunderstorms with winds of 40–50 kmph likely.
May 5–6: Continued possibility of scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds across Jharkhand.
