Jamshedpur: Security forces achieved a breakthrough in the West Singhbhum district by recovering a substantial cache of arms and explosives from the Rutugutu forest. The operation, conducted within the Saranda–Tonto–Goelkera region, successfully disrupted a major plot orchestrated by Maoist insurgents.
The CoBRA 209 Battalion discovered the illegal materials during a follow-up search operation linked to an encounter on April 29. That previous gunfight resulted in the neutralization of Israel Purti, a wanted Maoist operative who carried a bounty of Rs 1 lakh. Since that encounter, security personnel have maintained intensive combing operations across the dense forest terrain.
The seizure includes a variety of high-grade weaponry and ammunition:
- Forces recovered one SLR rifle and a carbine.
- The cache contained 182 live SLR rounds and multiple magazines.
- Search teams found several empty cartridges and an empty casing of an AK-47 rifle at the site.
In addition to firearms, the recovery of explosive materials indicates the severity of the planned attack. Security teams located four packets of gelatin sticks weighing approximately 5 kilograms. They also seized detonators, cortex wire, and various other explosive components.
Authorities believe these sustained operations are forcing Maoist groups to shift their bases from Saranda to the Kolhan forest belt. Security forces continue to intensify their campaign against prominent Maoist leaders, specifically targeting Misir Besra and Sagen Angaria. Police officials reaffirmed their commitment to countering insurgent activities and maintaining security throughout the region.
