IMD forecasts rain across Jharkhand till September 11

Jamshedpur: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Jharkhand over the next few days, bringing fresh relief to residents after a spell of weak monsoon activity. The intensity and spread of the rainfall are expected to increase on September 10 and 11, with many parts of the state likely to receive showers.

According to the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, the current weather pattern is influenced by a monsoon trough at mean sea level that stretches from a deep depression over southeast Pakistan and adjoining areas of Rajasthan and Kutch. The trough passes through Kota, Orai, Siddhi, Ranchi, Digha and extends further eastwards towards the northeast Bay of Bengal.

Adding to this system, an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh. This circulation, between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level, is tilting southwards with height, further aiding cloud formation and rainfall prospects.

Despite subdued monsoon activity in recent weeks, several parts of Jharkhand received light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in the past 24 hours. The highest recorded rainfall stood at 42 mm. On the other hand, maximum temperatures touched 36.9°C, adding to the discomfort before the showers.

For the agriculture sector, the forecast brings encouraging news. Jharkhand has so far maintained a seasonal rainfall surplus of 21 percent, ensuring adequate soil moisture levels and supporting paddy cultivation and other kharif crops. The surplus comes as a relief to farmers who had faced sporadic dry spells earlier in the season, raising concerns about crop yields.

Meteorologists said the upcoming showers would not only ease the heat but also replenish water bodies across the state. The rainfall is likely to improve groundwater recharge and support sowing in areas that had lagged behind due to earlier patchy rains.
