NIT Jamshedpur plans MoUs with global universities

Jamshedpur: Internationalisation through MoUs with leading global universities for student and faculty exchanges as well as joint research will be a major thrust area for the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur. This focus was announced during a press interaction held on Tuesday in the boardroom of the institute.

The conference, chaired by Director Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar, centred on the institute’s achievement in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, where NIT Jamshedpur secured the 82nd rank nationally and 17th among 31 participating NITs – a significant improvement from last year.

Prof. Sutradhar lauded the contribution of faculty, students, staff and alumni in the achievement. “This recognition is the outcome of continuous hard work and also sets the tone for the journey ahead. We are committed to strengthen research, enhance industry engagement and improve student learning outcomes to climb higher in the rankings,” he said.

NIRF Nodal Officer Prof. Satish Kumar pointed out the institute’s progress in research. “Our faculty are producing high-quality publications, engaging in interdisciplinary projects and attracting research grants. At the same time, we are working to deepen industry–academia interactions and sponsored projects,” he explained.

Registrar Col. (Dr.) Nishith Kumar Rai added that international collaborations will remain a top priority. “We will intensify efforts to enhance quality research output and build global partnerships to create new opportunities for students and faculty,” he said.

During the interaction, the institute highlighted its strengths, which include a pool of quality faculty, strong research initiatives, industry collaborations and improved placement outcomes. At the same time, the leadership acknowledged areas that need greater attention such as expanding research impact, increasing industry-supported projects, strengthening international collaborations and enhancing student support systems.

Looking ahead, NIT Jamshedpur shared a multi-year roadmap aimed at boosting academic excellence, research output, infrastructure and industry partnerships. Among the planned initiatives are incentives to encourage impactful publications and interdisciplinary research, the creation of industry-sponsored research chairs and collaborations, and expanded student support through internships, entrepreneurship mentoring and soft-skill development programmes. The institute also plans to sign MoUs with global universities to facilitate exchanges and joint research, along with the modernisation of laboratories, research facilities and digital learning infrastructure.

Deputy Registrar-cum-Media Incharge Sunil Kumar Bhagat was also present during the press interaction.
