Illegal parking of heavy vehicles on NH-33 Jamshedpur poses deadly risk

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur’s roads, particularly NH-33, have become increasingly dangerous due to the rampant illegal parking of heavy vehicles. Trucks, trailers and other large transport vehicles are often parked along the roadside, creating serious hazards for motorists, especially at night when visibility is low. The situation is particularly alarming on the Tata-Ranchi NH-33 stretch from Avadh Dental College to Chandil, where accidents have become frequent. Over the past year, 487 road accidents have been reported in East Singhbhum, resulting in 247 deaths, 29 of which were caused by heavy vehicles.

Despite repeated concerns from residents and commuters, administrative action remains lacking. Social activist Hemant Khalko expressed frustration over the inaction, stating that multiple protests have been held to demand stricter enforcement, but authorities have not taken significant steps. Areas such as Telco and Govindpur continue to witness accidents due to parked trucks blocking roads. MLA representative Pappu Singh highlighted the severe impact near Kumarum Basti, where roadside parking further narrows the already congested roads, increasing the likelihood of collisions.

The problem is further worsened by the absence of proper unloading zones for transporters, forcing them to use public roads and footpaths. Reports also indicate that traffic police and patrolling units are more focused on collecting money from truck drivers rather than ensuring compliance with parking regulations. Major locations such as Marine Drive, Kalimati Road and Jamco have become accident-prone zones due to poor traffic management.

With NH-33 being a key route for heavy vehicles, the risk of fatal accidents will continue to rise unless authorities take immediate steps to regulate parking and improve enforcement. Residents are demanding stricter penalties, better monitoring and designated parking spaces to prevent further loss of life.
