Dhanbad: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) ISM Dhanbad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (NIAMT), Ranchi, to advance the manufacturing of mining machinery.
According to an official statement, the MoU aims to enhance the manufacturing of mining machinery within a sustainable and circular framework, in alignment with the principles of Industry 4.0.
Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT ISM and Prof. Partha Protim Chattopadhyay, Director of NIAMT Ranchi, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.
The collaboration emphasises networking, knowledge exchange and mutual benefit, focusing on participation, reciprocity and frequent interactions between the two premier institutions.
On the occasion, Dr. Suvrokamal Dutta, an internationally renowned political, economic and foreign policy expert, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT ISM, Prof. Alok Das, Dean of Industry-Institute Engagement, Prof. Sagar Pal, Dean of Research and Development, Prof. Amit Rai Dixit, Dean of Infrastructure, Prof. Somnath Chattopadhyay, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (all from IIT ISM) and Prof. Anoop Kumar Sood from NIAMT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering were also present.
The key points of the MoU include joint research and development through collaborative projects and programmes to advance manufacturing technologies and operations. Both institutions will share resources and utilise facilities and experts for mutual growth. Opportunities for students and faculty to engage in knowledge-sharing initiatives, technology integration and an emphasis on automation will also be created.
The official further stated that NIAMT Ranchi, formerly known as the National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology, is a premier technical institution specialising in advanced engineering education, research and consultancy services.
