IIT Delhi Opens Campus to NIT Jamshedpur Under New ALIGN Student Exchange Pact

Jamshedpur: Students and faculty members of NIT Jamshedpur will be able to leverage academic exchanges, joint research projects, and advanced learning opportunities at IIT Delhi under a newly launched national collaboration initiative.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), including NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Rourkela, under its Academic Linkages for Innovation and National Growth (ALIGN) programme. The institute formally launched the initiative on June 4, 2026, to strengthen academic and research cooperation in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 objectives.

Under this collaboration, students and faculty from the participating NITs will access IIT Delhi’s academic ecosystem, including its state-of-the-art laboratories, research facilities, and faculty expertise. The initiative specifically offers meritorious undergraduate students a high-value opportunity to spend their final year at IIT Delhi as Special Exchange Students. During this period, these students will pursue advanced courses, engage in cutting-edge research projects, and participate in core academic activities.

Postgraduate students will also gain enhanced research opportunities and exposure to advanced academic programmes. The administration expects the initiative to drive multidisciplinary innovation and build a robust collaboration network among premier technical institutions across India.

Education experts believe the programme will significantly benefit NIT Jamshedpur students by exposing them to an IIT-level research and innovation environment while boosting their academic and career prospects. Faculty members will also join exchange programmes, collaborate on research projects, and co-guide student theses and research papers.

The 18 participating NITs include NIT Sikkim, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Silchar, NIT Jamshedpur, NIT Rourkela, NIT Raipur, VNIT Nagpur, SVNIT Surat, MNIT Jaipur, MANIT Bhopal, MNNIT Allahabad, NIT Kurukshetra, NIT Srinagar, NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Calicut, NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal, and NIT Jalandhar.

“We expect the ALIGN initiative to strengthen the country’s technical education ecosystem by promoting innovation, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative research,” an official stated. “It creates new avenues for academic excellence and opens national-level opportunities for students.”
