Gamharia: Tension gripped the Indo Danish Tool Room (IDTR), Jamshedpur, on Monday as students launched a fierce protest against the abrupt transfer of Placement In-Charge Sumit Koli. The unrest led the administration to suspend all classes until April 16.
Protesting students blocked the institute’s main gate, preventing faculty and staff from entering. The demonstrators argued that the transfer is “ill-timed and unjustified,” particularly as several major companies are scheduled to visit the campus for recruitment drives. They fear the leadership change will derail their career opportunities.
Attempts to Pacify Students
The situation intensified throughout the day, prompting several interventions:
-
Sumit Koli: The Placement In-Charge personally visited the site and appealed to students with folded hands to end the agitation.
-
Adityapur Police: Law enforcement arrived to maintain order as the crowd grew more resolute.
-
Circle Officer (CO): Gamharia CO Praveen Kumar attempted to mediate through dialogue, but the students refused to break the deadlock, demanding an immediate reversal of the transfer.
Administrative Response
Talks between local officials and institute authorities revealed a temporary stalemate. The General Manager of IDTR is currently on leave until April 16, meaning the administration cannot make a final decision on the transfer until then.
In response to the continued blockade and to prevent further escalation, the institute officially suspended classes until Wednesday. While the campus remains under monitoring, officials have refrained from issuing a formal statement regarding the specific reasons for the transfer.
