Jamshedpur : The Council of Indian School Certificate Examinations (ISCE), New Delhi has decided to remove the OMR (optical mark recognition) sheets that were introduced last year for students as well as examiners.
After complaints from all over the country, the CISCE has decided to scrap the confusing OMR marking for students, evaluators and supervising examiners. Though the UID (unique identification number) also introduced last year will stay. The traditional index number which has the year, centre code, school code and the roll number of students have been re-introduced after a gap of a year.
Welcoming the move a school principal said that during the time of the examinations, students tend to be tensed and they do make mistakes. Schools also complained to the council so that could be one of the reasons to abolish it. However, UID is here to stay and the council has also re-introduced the index number which will help in seating arrangements
This year there are 4212 students appearing for ICSE while 2884 students appearing for ISC across 43 schools in the city. The number of examinees in CBSE has also increased as more students have opted for board examinations rather than the school based examinations.
There are about 4500 students appearing from CBSE class X and 3500 students in class XII. There are about 31 CBSE schools out of which 18 have class XII. �The CBSE’s class XII students will start their examinations with English on March 2 and class X students will start with science on March 3.
In an attempt to reduce the mounting Board examination pressure on the students, the ICSE and CBSE schools in the city are conducting educational and psychological counselling sessions for the students.
The move has been commenced with an aim to help the Board examinees in overcoming exam fear and increasing their concentration level.
Keeping in view the approaching exam date, the decision taken will ensure helping the students in assessing their strengths and weaknesses, the school authorities said.
