Hyva crushes couple on bike, wife dead, husband injured; villagers block road in protest

Giridih: In Giridih, a tragic accident occurred as a Hyva truck crushed a couple riding a bike. Sunita Devi (35) lost her life instantly, and her husband, Kedar Prasad Verma (40), sustained severe injuries. The incident took place around 8:30 am on the Koderma-Kovad main road near Gando Mod of Birni, while the couple was returning home to Tato from Janta Jaridih in the Birni police station area. The driver of the Hyva truck fled the scene after the accident.

Injured Kedar Verma was initially admitted to the Community Health Center in Birni and later referred to Dhanbad for further treatment. The angry villagers, seeking compensation for the upbringing of the couple’s two small children, blocked the road in protest. The road blockade lasted for about two and a half hours until the administration assured them of taking action against the driver and owner and providing compensation as per the law.

Authorities, including CO Saransh Jain, Chief Ramu Baitha, Police Station Incharge Mrityunjay Singh, PNS Salim Ansari, Congress leader Basudev Prasad Verma, BJP leader Premchand Kushwaha, Chief Vishnudev Verma, and Sahdev Yadav, reached the spot to gather information. The road blockade was lifted at 11 a.m. after the administration’s assurance. Following the removal of the blockade, the police took the deceased’s body into custody for post-mortem at Sadar Hospital. Police station in-charge Mrityunjay Singh mentioned that a case would be registered upon receiving an application from the family of the deceased.
