Jamshedpur, Oct. 4: In a shocking incident a 25-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by youths in the city. The victim was found in a wretched condition near Gandhi Ghat along the Subernarekha river under Sakchi police station area early Thursday morning. The girl who was bleeding from the head and mouth was in semi-nude condition and allegedly gang-raped.
The victim who is from Howrah district in Bengal has been admitted at the MGM Medical College Hospital’s surgical ward.
Superintendent of police (city) Prabhat Kumar confirmed about recovery of a girl from near Gandhi Ghat in precaurious condition.
“We are investigating the incident. At present we have got the victim admitted at the medical college hospital. We are probing into the circumstances under which she was found along the Subernarekha river in Sakchi,” said Kumar. The City SP said they are looking into whether the girl had been raped.
According to information at present, the victim is not in a condition to speak properly due to the injuries. She has been crying. She is also not able to speak in any other language than Bengali. But what she replied to the queries made by the reporters suggested that she had been gang-raped by three youths, including his lover.
The victim said a youth, Mohammed Maqsood, had befriended with her a few months ago and they got close.
” I am really in state of shock. Maqsood would stay in my neighbourhood at Howrah. He brought me here in the steel city two days ago. He promised me that he will marry me. Last night, Maqsood brought me to a place near a river where he had physical relation with me.
Later two of his friends also joined him and raped me one after another. When I protested they all assaulted me with stone and left the place leaving me in injured,” said the victim while talking to the reporters.
In the morning at about 6 am, some local residents had spotted the girl lying behind Gandhi Ghat. Some of the locals informed police control room (PCR), leading a police vehicle to reach the spot.
The officials of the PCR van subsequently called in an ambulance. The victim was subsequently carried in the ambulance to the medical college hospital which is just 500 metres away from the spot.
