Horror in Chaibasa: Drunk Man Hacks Sister-in-Law and 10-Year-Old Niece to Death

Chaibasa: A man hacked his sister-in-law and 10-year-old niece to death with an axe in West Singhbhum district. The double murder, fuelled by severe alcohol addiction, has devastated the family and sent shockwaves through the region.

The tragedy unfolded on Saturday afternoon at Marisai Tola in Bada Torlo village, under the jurisdiction of the Manjhari Police Station. The victims have been identified as 33-year-old Nanika Biruwa and her 10-year-old daughter, Sharmila Biruwa.

According to police, the accused, Ramay Biruwa alias Lugun, is a chronic alcoholic who routinely returned home intoxicated to abuse and quarrel with family members. On Saturday, Ramay arrived home heavily inebriated and triggered a domestic dispute. As the argument escalated, he grabbed an axe and attacked Nanika Biruwa. He then turned on his 10-year-old niece, Sharmila Biruwa, repeatedly striking her until she died.

At the time of the attack, Nanika’s husband, Dakhal Singh Biruwa, was working out in the agricultural fields. When he returned home after being alerted by neighbours, he discovered the blood-soaked bodies of his wife and daughter.

Shocked by the sight, the villagers immediately alerted the Manjhari police. A police team rushed to the crime scene, took custody of the bodies, and dispatched them to the Sadar Hospital in Chaibasa for post-mortem examinations.

Dakhal Singh Biruwa told investigators that his elder brother, Ramay, was a habitual disruptor who constantly terrorized and tortured the family under the influence of alcohol.

The Manjhari police tracked down and arrested the accused, Ramay Biruwa. Investigators have also recovered the blood-stained axe used in the double murder. The Station House Officer (SHO) confirmed that a murder complaint has been registered against the accused, and an interrogation is underway as police investigate all angles of the tragedy.
