Married woman found hanging near Salgajhari railway gate in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 28 : A married woman was found dead after allegedly hanging herself under suspicious circumstances near Salgajhari railway gate in the Parsudih police station. Police reached the spot after receiving information, took custody of the body, and initiated an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Soni Devi, wife of Dev Kumar Sharma. She had been married since 2013 and is survived by her husband and three children—two sons and a daughter.

According to the woman’s in-laws, Soni Devi had been unwell for some time. However, family members refrained from making any detailed statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s brother, Bablu Kumar Sharma, expressed suspicion over the circumstances surrounding her death and demanded a fair and impartial investigation. He said he received a phone call from his brother-in-law around 10:30 p.m. informing him that his sister had allegedly hanged herself.
Bablu Sharma also claimed that Soni Devi was not undergoing any medical treatment. While acknowledging that there had been occasional domestic disputes, he said the family was unaware of any reason that could have driven her to take such an extreme step.
In a significant development, the family refused to allow a post-mortem examination of the body despite raising doubts over the circumstances of the death, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
Parsudih police said further legal action will depend on the complaint submitted by the family. Investigators have stated that all aspects of the case are being examined and that the actual cause of death will be determined only after a thorough investigation and evaluation of the available evidence.
