Jamshedpur: A grand sports competition will be organised at Mango Gurudwara Sahib on March 1 to mark the festival of Hola Mohalla. The event is being jointly organised by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Gatka Akhara and the Gurudwara Management Committee, Mango. The programme will begin at 7 am at the Mango Gurudwara School Ground.
A large number of Sikh children are expected to participate in the event, which will showcase a blend of sports, tradition and enthusiasm. The competitions will include a 100-metre race, spoon and marble race, skipping race, sack race, shot put, tug-of-war and push-ups. Special attractions will be the turban and dumala decoration competition and a painting contest, along with several fun games.
The entry fee has been fixed at Rs 50 per participant. The last date for registration is February 28. Organisers have made athletic dress and sports shoes mandatory for all participants.
Jaswant Singh Jassu, General Secretary of Mango Gurudwara Sahib, appealed to children, youth and members of the Sangat to participate in large numbers. He said Hola Mohalla is not just a festival but a symbol of bravery, discipline and unity in the Sikh community.
Masters Athletics Champion Gursharan Singh, journalist Baljeet Sansoa and Sukhwant Singh Sukhu of the Central Sikh Youth Sabha have been appointed as sports mentors for the event. Organisers said all preparations have been completed and a poster has been released to invite participation.
Hola Mohalla, started by the Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, promotes courage, self-confidence and the spirit of service through Gatka, martial arts and sports activities.
