Jamshedpur: The monsoon over Jharkhand is set to remain active in the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across several parts of the state. The weather office has advised residents, especially those in vulnerable areas, to remain cautious of lightning strikes and waterlogging.
According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is likely on August 11 in pockets of west-central, adjoining north-western, and southern districts. Isolated areas could also experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds.
Meteorological observations indicate that the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently runs through Ferozpur, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Kheri, Patna, Bankura, Digha, and extends east-southeastwards into the northeast Bay of Bengal. Additionally, an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over Bangladesh, the West Bengal coasts, and the adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, extending between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestwards with height.
A trough from northeast Uttar Pradesh to south Bangladesh, passing through Bihar, Jharkhand, and northern Gangetic West Bengal, is further influencing weather patterns in the region. The IMD has also indicated the likely formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 13, which could intensify rainfall activity in Jharkhand.
In the last 24 hours, most parts of the state recorded light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, while some areas saw isolated heavy showers. The highest rainfall, 115.2 mm, was reported from Barkisuriya in Giridih district.
