Jamshedpur: The Kusum Kamani Auditorium at Narbheram Hansraj English School was filled with laughter and applause this weekend. The literary organization Surabhi hosted its annual All India Hasya Kavi Sammelan, a beloved tradition that brings the city together on the eve of Holi.
A Quarter-Century of Literary Tradition
For 26 years, social worker and Surabhi founder Govind Dodrajka has been the driving force behind this cultural landmark. The event was officially inaugurated with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Chief Guest and senior BJP leader Amarpreet Singh Kale.
The Highlight: A Living Legend Graces the Stage
The emotional heart of the evening was the presence of Santosh Anand. At 85 years old, the legendary lyricist (famed for “Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai”) added a layer of dignity and grace to the program. His participation was a rare treat for the Jamshedpur audience, bridging the gap between classic poetry and modern satire.
An All-Star Lineup of Poets
The audience was kept in high spirits by some of the country’s most talented poets and satirists:
- Dr. Aditya Jain: Famous for his “Netaji Lapete Mein” act, he delivered sharp, witty political commentary.
- Munna Battery & Himanshu Bavandar: Known for their high-energy humorous performances.
- Chetan, Shraddha, and Shashi Shreya: Provided a mix of soulful verses and contemporary social satire.
A Night to Remember
The auditorium was packed with literature enthusiasts who responded to the verses with enthusiastic “Wah-Wahs” and standing ovations. The blend of humor, satire, and thought-provoking poetry created a vibrant atmosphere, proving that the appeal of poetic gatherings remains as strong as ever in the Steel City.
As the curtains fell, attendees expressed their deep appreciation to Govind Dodrajka for his tireless efforts in preserving Jamshedpur’s rich artistic heritage.
