HCL Surada Mines workers start agitation

Jamshedpur : The workers and representatives of the three registered unions staged a demonstration against the HCL management from Friday, demanding the opening of the Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) Surda mines at the earliest and payment of the pending five-month arrears of wages to the workers. The movement has started in a phase wise manner.

In the first phase of the movement on Friday, the HCL management’s attention was drawn to the problems of the workers by giving a one-day symbolic dharna in front of the Surada administrative building. The dharna started from 8 am which lasted till 5 pm. On September 19, the torch procession will be taken out by all the workers from Birsa garden to Sido-Kanhu check bus stand at 4 pm.

Dewatering will be closed indefinitely on Sunday 20 September at the Surda Mines Three Shaft and Fourth Shaft. On Monday, 21 September, all workers will gather at the Surda crossing Baba Tilka Majhi check. Thereafter, HCL-ICC officials and officials of Everest Contracting Company will be stopped from their work. The call for the closure of Musabani Township and Market will be called on Tuesday 22 September.
