Jamshedpur: The 16th birthday of Rajni, the popular elephant of Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Dalma Check Post. The event was graced by Ichagarh MLA Savita Mahato as the chief guest, who fed Rajni bananas and sugarcane while wishing her a long life. “Rajni is the pride of Dalma. Such celebrations foster harmony between humans and wildlife,” she said.
The venue was decorated with colourful balloons and flowers and Rajni cut a 14-pound cake to mark the occasion. Forest officers, including DFO Saba Alam Ansari, Ranger Dinesh Chandra and several forest staff, villagers and children participated, shouting “Happy Birthday Rajni.”
Rajni was rescued as a calf in 2009 after being trapped near Chandil and was later rehabilitated at Dalma, where her birthday has been celebrated every year since — a touching symbol of human affection for wildlife.
