Jamshedpur, July 11: Gulmohur High School embarked on a ground-breaking initiative aimed at fostering mental strength and resilience in students and parents. The inaugural session, titled ‘Let Us Raise Mentally Strong Children,’ held on April 15, marked the beginning of a series of events dedicated to prioritizing student wellbeing throughout the year.

Principal Priti Sinha led the session, underscoring the need for a comprehensive approach to education that went beyond academic excellence. She highlighted the pressing modern challenges such as cyber-bullying, information overload, digital distractions, and mental health pressures that students faced today.

She emphasized, “Academic success is important, but it is not the sole determinant of a fulfilling life. Our goal is to equip students with the tools to navigate these challenges and lead balanced, happy lives.”

The session explored various practices designed to cultivate mental resilience in children. Among the techniques discussed were chanting ‘AUM,’ deep breathing exercises, earthing (connecting with nature), and practicing gratitude. These methods are known for their benefits in reducing stress, enhancing focus, and boosting mood.

Principal Sinha also stressed the importance of quality time between parents and children, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment. “Bonding time, devoid of directives, is crucial for a child’s emotional development,” she noted.

Acknowledging the role of traditional education, the Principal also emphasized the importance of self-study, goal-setting, action plans, and vision boards in fostering a sense of purpose and happiness in students. She highlighted the three pillars of academic success: school, self-study, and textbooks.

The session was highly interactive, with students and parents sharing their experiences and providing feedback. Parents were equally engaged, participating in discussions and posing questions. Principal Sinha reiterated the school’s commitment to ongoing support, with plans for regular meetings and workshops throughout the academic year.

Since the launch of this initiative, Principal Priti Sinha had touched the hearts of approximately 225 students, 100 teachers, and 400 parents. Her ambitious goal for 2024 was to reach out to every parent and student at Gulmohur High School, ensuring that all students were resilient and well-mentored by both parents and teachers.
