Gudabanda police station clerk accused of extortion, assault

Jamshedpur, July 20: The Gudabanda police station in Jamshedpur has come under scrutiny following allegations of assault and extortion. Subhash Bera, a local youth from Banamakdi, was reportedly subjected to physical abuse within the precincts of the station, with claims that he was released only after his family paid a sum of Rs 35,000. Bharti Devi, the victim’s mother, alleges that police station clerk Mani Kumar assaulted her son and extorted payment under the coercion of ASI Ratan Kumar. Further accusations have surfaced against ASI Ajay Kumar and other officers, suggesting a broader involvement in the incident. The case, which dates back to July 15, when Bera was apprehended by ASI Ratan Kumar, has raised serious concerns about police conduct in the region. Investigations are ongoing as the authorities seek to address these grave accusations.
