Grimmer days ahead for Mango residents

Jamshedpur : Over two lakh residents of Mango will have to face grimmer days ahead with the Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited ( JUVNL) deciding to go for shut-down in regular intervals for widening of the Pardih and Old Purulia Road. Officials of Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited ( JUVNL) today said that shut-down has become necessary or else the road widening work will get affected.

” We have no choice left. Both the Pardih and the Old Purulia Road which connects with the National Highway-33 is being widened with the funds provided by the local MLA and the state government. To facilitate the road widening work we need to take a shut-down for dismantling the electricity poles and other equipments. As our power supply is overhead we have no other option but to re-locate the elecrtricity poles for which we need to go for a shut-down,” said R J Singh, superintending engineer of JUVNL.

The senior JUVNL official went on to say that a committee was also formed for charting out the shut-down roaster. ” Shut-down will be carried out area-wise . In some places it has already started while in some places it will begin from tomorrow. The shut-down in a particular locality will last for 5-6 hours,” said the official.

Notably, several localities in Mango and its adjoining areas have been facing power woes for the last few days due to break-down of a 33 KV transmission line. Areas like Dimna Road, Azadnagar, Zakirnagar, Sankosai and Baliguma on the National Highway-33 were facing compulsory intermittent power cuts and prolonged loadsheddings.

For some consumers, power failure also triggered water shortage. Water could not be pumped to the overhead tanks. We were compelled to fetch water from Jusco taps in neighbouring localities, said resident Anil Sharma
However, a senior official said that engineers had been pressed into service and normal supply was expected to be restored by late evening.

Notably, the Singhbhum electricity supply area generates a monthly revenue to the tune of Rs 30-35 crore against the power boards total revenue earning of over Rs 100 crore.

However, the power crisis in Mango and its adjoining areas serviced by the Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited ( JUVNL) will improve in days to come. The Singhbhum unit of JUVNL has finally identified the land for setting up a 5,000 KVA mini power grid sub-station near Baliguma on the National Highway-33, which will supply power to the entire Mango area and its adjoining areas catering to a population of over two lakh.

JUVNL’s superintending engineer R J Singh said that they have decided to set up the sub station about six acres of land for the power project which will involve investment close to Rs 50 lakh. Sources at JSEB’s headquarters said that the initiative was taken to make sure that the Singhbhum unit of JUVNL, which has the largest concentration of industries, gets a steady supply of electricity during peak hours.
