Grand Hindu New Year procession in Jamshedpur on March 18

Jamshedpur, March 16: A grand Hindu New Year procession will be taken out from the Dimna Transport Nagar Ground on March 18, with organisers expecting a massive turnout of nearly five lakh devotees.
The announcement was made during a press conference held on Monday by members of the Hindu Utsav Samiti and the Hindu Janjagaran Manch.
Addressing the media, social worker Nityanand Sinha, Dharmendra Prasad, patron of Hindu Utsav Samiti Shankar Reddy, Mangal Akhada’s Munna Singh, advocate Rajhans Tiwari, Pawan Singh, Hindu Utsav Samiti president Advocate Ravi Prakash, Hindu Jagaran Manch leader Amit Sharma, and Sukhdev shared details of the event.
According to the organisers, the procession will begin from Dimna Chowk Transport Nagar Ground and culminate at the same venue after passing through several key locations in the city. The route will include Mango Chowk, Mango Bus Stand roundabout, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Purana Kitab Dukaan Chowk, and Bengal Club Road, before reaching Sakchi Subhash Maidan (Ambagan).
At Sakchi Subhash Maidan, a grand aarti of Bharat Mata will be performed by 21 priests in the presence of thousands of devotees, which organisers said will be a highlight of the event.
Dharmendra Prasad said several attractions have been planned for the procession this year. These include a 21-foot-tall idol of Lord Ram, tableaux depicting Ram Darbar, Shiv Parivar, and an Aghori dance performance. A 9-foot idol of Bajrangbali, the famous Ramgarh ‘Danka’ drum performance, and a symbolic Vanar Sena will also be part of the procession. Devotees will also participate in celebrations accompanied by modern DJ music.
Speaking on the occasion, Nityanand Sinha said that women will play a prominent role in this year’s procession. Thousands of women dressed in traditional attire are expected to participate and lead parts of the procession, symbolising the courage and spirit of figures such as Rani Lakshmibai and Rani Durgavati.
The women’s participation will be coordinated by leaders including Manju, Sushila Devi, Amrita Mishra, Usha Yadav, Shashi Acharya, Santoshi Sahu, Durga Sahu, and Pooja Kumari.
Advocate Ravi Prakash informed that around 200 volunteers have been assigned responsibilities to ensure smooth management of the event and to assist the administration in maintaining law and order as well as traffic discipline along the route.
Organisers appealed to the Hindu community across the city to participate in large numbers. They urged that at least one member from every Hindu household should join the procession, which will begin at 3 pm on March 18, to strengthen unity and celebrate the Hindu New Year with devotion and enthusiasm.
