Jamshedpur: The masters of democracy are the people. In villages, Gram Pradhans play an important role in ensuring the successful implementation of various development and welfare schemes of the Central and state governments. This was observed on Sunday by the state Urban Development Minister CP Singh.
Singh was speaking as the chief guest during a district level programme �Samvad� organized at XLRI Auditorium to felicitate Gram Pradhans, Ghatwals and Tavedars on behalf of the state government. He said the state government had started honouring Gram Pradhans with the view to ensure their greater participation in the implementation of government schemes. He said giving greater roles to Gram Pradhans in rural development was top on the priority list of state government.
The minister asked the Gram Pradhans to promote regular use of toilets by villagers. He also appealed to them to make the villagers aware about the benefits of various government schemes meant for their welfare.
Also present on the occasion was the MP of Jamshedpur Bidyut Baran Mahato and Baharagora MLA Kunal Sarangi. They jointly inaugurated the programme.
During the programme, several villagers were given compensation under SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. As many as 36 people were granted forest lease by the welfare department.
