Jamshedpur: Notwithstanding tall claims of the state government regarding improvement in the education sector, the Government Odia Middle School in Asangi of Seraikela-Kharsawan cuts a sorry picture when it comes to basic infrastructure.
The school has been experiencing hardship since past several years in terms of non-availability of funds which could be utilized under various heads to set up basic infrastructure and facilities for the students.
At present the school has only three teachers including a para teacher. The thin staff strength has the responsibility of teaching 150 students in all. This has led to a poor teacher-students ratio in the school. Had it not been for the para-teacher, the ratio would have been even worse, said Samai Singh, Headmaster in-charge of the school.
According to Singh, who doubles up as teacher as well as Headmaster of the school, �Sometimes the number of students goes up crossing the 200 mark. This further makes it difficult for the teachers to take classes smoothly.�
Local villagers said the issues like regarding staff shortage and absence of a full-time Headmaster in the school have been raised before the district education department authorities concerned. But so far nothing has been done to improve the situation.
