Government schemes strengthening the place and position of women in society

Many programmes has been implemented and run by the government such as International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day to bring awareness in the society for the upliftment, progress and prosperity of women in the society. Women need to be progressed in the number of spheres. India being a developing country faces high level of gender inequality where women are ill-treated by their family members and outsiders. Illiterate women percentage in India is particularly high. The real meaning of women empowerment is to make well educated and make them free so that they are capable of decision making and self-motivated in any field. In modern India women have held high offices including President, Prime Minister, Speaker of Lok Sabha and leader of Opposition. However women in India still faces atrocities such as rape, acid attack, dowry killings, forced prostitution of innocent young girls. Various schemes have been implemented time to time for the empowerment of women.

Working Women Hostel Scheme

Since the year of inception 1972-73 it aims to facilitate the safe and secure accommodation of working Women. It provides accommodation to the children of working women upto the age of 18 years for girls and upto the age of 5 for the boys .

Support to Training and Employment Programme for women

The Ministry of India has been administering support to Training and Employment Programme for women since 1986-87 to facilitate skills and unemployment to the women at the age group of 16 and above in the country. The grant under the scheme is given to an institution or organisation including NGO directly and not to states/UT.

Nari Shakti Puraskar

Previously known as Stri Sakti Puraskar was presented by President of India on Women’s Day to strengthen the place and position in our make dominance society. It enables the progress and prosperity of women.

Manila Shakti Kendra’s (MSK)

Pradhan Mantri Manila Shakti Kendras      ( PMMSK) schemes mission for protection and empowerment of women approved by the cabinet committee. It was a result of the expansion of the scheme of the ministry of Women and Child Development under the umbrella scheme. Mission for protection and empowerment for women. The government has planned to reach 115 most backward districts of the country of 920 Mahila Shakti Kendra’s.

Beti Baccho Beti Padhao Scheme

Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India has launched it in the year 2015 with the aim of gender equality, biased sex selection to ensure survival and protection of the girl child and ensure education and participation of the girl child. In its first phase there is identification of 100 districts on the basis of low child sex ratio (CSR) as per census 2011 covering all states. In 2018 it has been covering all 640 districts. The campaign aims at ensuring that girls are born, nurtured and educated without discrimination to become empowered citizen having equal rights. 

One Stop Centre Scheme

Launched in the year 2015 to provide support and assistance to women affected by violence both in public and private spaces. It aims to facilitate or assist in filing First Information Report (FIR). It provides psycho-social support and counseling to women and girls.

Women Helpline Scheme

This scheme enables toll free 24 hours telecom service to women affected by violence and facilitate crisis intervention through agencies such as police/ hospitals/ ambulance services. It provides information about the support and various encouraging programmes for the violence affected women in domestic as well as working place.

Ujjwala Yogna

It enables free LPG connection to the poor women. For the women empowerment this scheme is useful as well as essential in keeping the environment clean it is essential in promoting the use of LPG and discarding the use of exhausting fossil fuels.

Nirbhaya Yogna

This Yogna was launched in the year 2012 for the safety and security of women at various levels and ensure strict privacy and confidentiality for women’s Identity and information. Nirbhaya Fund is created by Ministry of Finance in 2013 with the corpus of Rs 1000 crore for promoting the safety, security of women of our country. It is non-lapsable corpus fund monitored under secretary of women and child development ministry. 

Mahila E Haat

Started in the year 2016 with the government’s initiative towards women empowerment when women entrepreneurs/ Self- Help Groups can display and sell their self made products and services pushing the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the government to empower and strengthen financial inclusion of women entrepreneurs in the economy. The entire business process can be handled through the mobile phones. The sellers can register their products on the portal without paying fee. Since it’s inception, women entrepreneurs/ SHGS/NGOs from 24 States are exhibiting over 2000 products/services across 18 categories. The business is impacting over 26000 SHGs.
