Government to free 87 prisoners from Jharkhand jails

Ranchi, May 30: Jharkhand State Sentence Review Board here on Tuesday decided to release 87 prisoners serving jail term in different prisons across the state. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Board held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Raghubar Das.

Official sources said the Board members unanimously decided to release the prisoners in the 87 odd cases that came before it for consideration. In majority of the cases, the prisoners have completed a jail term of 15 years. The Board members said that given the old age and lack of criminal record, the prisoners may be released from jail after remission of their sentence, official sources said.

Among those going to be released, 24 prisoners are currently in Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan Central Jail, Hazaribagh, 27 in Birsa Munda Central Jail, Ranchi, 17 in Central Jail, Dumka, 7 in Ghaghidih Central Jail, Jamshedpur, 11 in Central Jail, Medininagar (Palamu) and 1 in Divisional Jail, Garhwa.
