Jamshedpur: On the auspicious occasion of the Sohrai festival, a traditional Got Bonga puja was performed today at Kitadih village under Jamshedpur block. The sacred ritual was conducted by Nayake (priest) Baba Mahabir Murmu, with devotion and reverence. During the ceremony, offerings and prayers were made to all the principal deities, including Marang Buru, Jaher Ayo, Gram Devta, Mode, and Turai.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahabir Murmu said that the Got Bonga puja is an integral part of the Sohrai celebration, performed to express gratitude towards the invaluable members of every agrarian family — cows and bulls. “These animals play a vital role in our agricultural work, and their hard work provides us with paddy, rice, and various food grains. During Sohrai, we pray to the deities for their good health and well-being,” he said.
He further informed that on the second day of the Sohrai festival, villagers adorn their cattle, make them dance, and offer them special food as a mark of love and respect. The celebration reflects the community’s deep connection with nature, livestock, and traditional Santhali culture.
Prominent villagers present on the occasion included Bengal Majhi Kishun Murmu, Sanjeev Hembram, Vikas Murmu, Joke Majhi Narayan Hembram, Madhu Soren, Hemant Soren, Raja Ram Murmu, Chunun Hembram, Bindu Soren, Gurba Hansda, Khela Soren, Kishun Soren, Ramrai Soren, Sundar Soren, Ganesh Hembram, Mangal Soren, and others.
