Jamshedpur, Jan 18: The tribal populace in and around the city are gearing up for Vishal Tusu Mela at Gopal Maidan on Thursday, January 21, to be organized by Jharkhand Vasi Ekta Manch. The guests list includes Chief Minister Raghubar Das and several Cabinet ministers.
This was jointly informed by Astik Mahato, chief coordinator, Jamshedpur MP Vidhut Varan Mahato and Ichagarh MLA Sadhucaharan Mahato at a press meet in Sonari on Monday. At the Tusu Mela, competitions will be held in three categories where seven awards will be given in Tusu competition, 4 awards in Chowdal and 4 awards will be given in dance competition. Consolation prizes will be given away to all who will bring Tusu idol and Chowdal.
The deadline for bringing the Tusu idol inside the ground is 3 p.m., Astik Mahto added. The event turns out to be a jamboree of tribal artistes and performers not only from Jharkhand but also from neighboring states like Odisha and Bengal. Astik Mahto said that Chowdal the competition Jharkhand, Bengal and Orissa state will be competitive. Several competitions will be organized at the event and the winners will be awarded cash prizes.
MP Vidhut Varan Mahato and MLA Sadhucharan Mahato, said, Tusu is a great traditional festival for the Jharkhand and would demand three-day government leave from the state government for which we have had talks with Chief Minister Raghubar Das. MP said that during the festival illegal gambling are there in several places which should be shut down permanently.
The tribals in and around the city and especially those of Bengal and Orissa are expected to participate in large numbers at the harvest festival with traditional fanfare and gaiety.
Those present at the press meet included Jamshedpur MP Vidhut Varan Mahato, MLA Ichagarh Sadhu Charan Mahato, Babu Nag, Makkad Mahato, Umakant, Bablu Mahato, Ashok Singh, and Sukhdeo Mahato.
