Mob Sets In-Laws’ House Ablaze in Giridih After Woman’s Suspicious Death

Giridih: Tension gripped Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Wednesday following the suspicious death of a 26-year-old married woman. The incident triggered violent protests from the woman’s parental family, who allegedly set her in-laws’ house on fire.

Police have since deployed security personnel in the village to maintain law and order and prevent further escalation.

The Incident and Escalation

Authorities recovered the body of Bindiya Devi, wife of Chandan Kumar, from a well near her home in Shyamnagar Tola on Tuesday evening.

• Violent Protest: Upon hearing the news, a large group of relatives from Hazaribagh district rushed to the spot.

• Arson: Grief quickly turned to rage as the family accused the in-laws of harassment. The mob allegedly vandalized the property before pouring petrol on the house and setting it ablaze, reducing household belongings to ashes.

• Police Response: The Suriya police station team arrived to pacify the crowd while fire brigade vehicles eventually brought the flames under control.

Investigation Underway

Police have taken custody of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

• Conflicting Claims: Local sources suggest a long-standing domestic dispute may have driven the woman to suicide. However, her family formally alleges murder.

• Legal Action: Officials are currently identifying the individuals involved in the arson. They intend to take strict legal action against those who destroyed the property.
