Jamshedpur, May 29: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has strongly condemned the arrest of Ghatsila Zila Parishad member Karan Singh, calling it a vindictive act and a “murder of democracy.”
In a statement issued on Thursday, Roy mentioned that the complainant who had filed charges of assault and extortion against Karan Singh met him earlier in the day and expressed a desire to withdraw the complaint, citing a misunderstanding between them and acknowledging Karan as an acquaintance.
Roy further stated that when the complainant reached Ghatsila police station to formally withdraw the case, the station in-charge allegedly had him escorted out and his mobile phone switched off. Since then, the complainant’s family had reportedly been contacting Roy, worried about his whereabouts.

Expressing deep concern, Roy criticized the police’s conduct as highly irresponsible and stated that he personally informed the Senior SP and Rural SP about the complainant’s willingness to compromise. “Despite this, the police unjustly sent Karan Singh to jail, which is a violation of the police manual,” he said.
Roy warned that such actions by law enforcement created fear among public representatives and the general public, discouraging them from approaching the administration. He urged the police to improve their approach, warning that public anger could escalate if such high-handedness continued.
