Jamshedpur, Aug 21: The Haritalika Teej Utsav is observed by women as prayer for the longevity and prosperity of their husbands and the households. Pappu Sardar, the owner of Manohar Chaat at Basant Talkies Line in Sakchi is known as a diehard fan of cine star Madhuri Dixit but in actuality, she acknowledges him as her brother. Pappu has been arranging for Mehendi art designs for women by experts in the profession annually on the eve of Haritalika Teej. But this year, he was unable to organize the Mehendi application camp in his restaurant premises because of the COVID-19 norms that include social distancing.

Instead, Pappu Sardar on August 19 and 20 distributed Mehendi powder and masks among 188 women who came to his hotel counter from all across Jamshedpur. He also presented sarees and other requisites that married women require during observance of Haritalika Teej to the less fortunate women. Pappu observed on the occasion, I am Madhuri Dixits sister. As a part of my love and respect for my sister, I organize this Mehendi ritual every year for my other sisters here. But this year due to COVID protection rules, I did not organize the Mehendi decoration in my restaurant premises. But I did not deprive them of gifting them with Mehendi packs.

It may be mentioned here that he started this Mehendi dcor programme in 2017 when 300 women came for design applications. In 2018, 850 women had Mehendi designs applied on their hands while the figure swelled to 1050 in 2019.
